Financial Aid
Scholarships and Financial Aid Instructions

If you’re applying for financial aid based on need, we’ll send you a separate Wesleyan College Financial Assessment form when we receive your Application for Admission. We also offer a limited number of merit scholarships, which are awarded upon your acceptance to Wesleyan. An applicant for admission will be considered automatically for most scholarships. No additional application is required.

Some students may be invited to an annual scholarship competition. Performance arts awards require an audition or submission of a portfolio.  If you’re interested in auditioning for a specific fine arts scholarship – such as art, music, or theatre – you should contact the Admission Office.

Every student applying for financial aid must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form is in addition to the Wesleyan Financial Aid Application Form (2008-2009) You can also get the FAFSA form from your secondary school counselor. You should send it in as soon as possible after January 1.

NOTE TO EARLY DECISION CANDIDATES: Students who indicate they plan to apply for need-based aid will be sent the Estimate of Financial Aid Eligibility form. Students may then receive an assessment of their aid eligibility before finalizing their Early Decision application.

Wesleyan offers a comprehensive financial aid program.  Review some of the scholarships, grants, and loans listed here.  Plus, additional information may be found on our Scholarships page.

Scholarships, Grants, and Loans

Scholarship Day
The annual Wesleyan College Scholarship Day is open to high school seniors who have demonstrated exemplary academic records, leadership, or talents through their applications for admission. In addition, students may also compete for a performance art scholarship in art, music, or theatre.  Scholarship opportunities are greatly enhanced by participation in a Scholarship Day. Eligible students should complete all required admission materials prior to January 1.

Academic Scholarships
These scholarships range in value from one half to full tuition per year. Minimum eligibility requirements are a 1200 SAT/27ACT and a 3.25 GPA, or an 1100 SAT/25 ACT and a 3.50 GPA. Competition includes a classroom discussion and an individual interview.

Fine Arts Scholarships
These scholarships range in value from $500 to $2,500 per year. Students interested in music or theatre scholarships are required to audition, preferably in person, but audio or video tapes are permitted. A portfolio is required of those competing for an art scholarship.

Wesleyan Merit Award Program
Each year Wesleyan College offers scholarships to academically deserving students. These awards are available on a competitive basis to outstanding incoming first-year and transfer students. The college offers an annual on-campus scholarship competition program which all eligible scholarship nominees are strongly encouraged to attend. Leadership Awards may be granted to students who have demonstrated superior leadership characteristics in high school, church, and in the community. Interested students should contact the Admission Office for further information about scholarship eligibility requirements and competition dates.

Scholarship Policy
All merit awards are renewable from year to year, provided the student is enrolled full time (12 or more semester hours) at Wesleyan, maintains the required grade point average, and satisfies other stipulated conditions of her scholarship as identified in the Statement of Understanding which accompanies a scholarship offer. Incoming students may not receive more than two merit awards from Wesleyan with the second being restricted typically to no more than $2,500 in value.

Should any academic scholarship recipient receive additional financial aid which results in the overpayment of the student's bill for any academic year or any portion of an academic year, the Financial Aid Office reserves the right to re-evaluate that student's particular situation and reduce the amount of scholarship by the amount of such overpayment. No combination of institutional, federal or state scholarships and grants may exceed the College's direct costs, that is, tuition, required fees, room (standard double room rate) and board. Students receiving outside scholarships may apply these funds up to the full value of the College's comprehensive costs, which include an estimate for books, as well as personal and transportation expenses. The College reserves the right to adjust need-based institutional aid if a student receives outside funding, though effort will also be made to reduce the student's self-help forms of aid, such as work-study and student loans.

Scholarships and Grants
Scholarships for Wesleyan students are provided from College sources, private businesses, civic groups, estates, individuals, and alumnae. Most scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate strong academic achievement and proven need for assistance. It is not necessary for students competing for scholarship assistance to indicate each individual scholarship for which they wish to be considered.
