Head Tennis Coach: Tom Bates
Joining both the athletics department and the Office of Student Affairs, Tom Bates is the newest member of the Wesleyan College family. Hired to serve as the head tennis coach and Director of Career Development, Bates brings an extensive background in both areas to campus with him.
On the courts, Bates is a PTR (Professional Tennis Registry) certified teaching professional who has been coaching in the middle Georgia area for the last seven years. Currently working with the Juniors program at Idle Hour Country Club which trains the current Georgia top 5 ranked boys and girls in the 12's, 14's, 16's and 18's, he has also worked at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center as well as at the Tattnall Tennis Center. An active member of the USTA, Bates spends a fair amount of time competing on the hard courts in addition to his responsibilities as a teacher.
“I’m excited about the opportunity to coach at Wesleyan College,” remarks Bates. “I hope to make us a competitive program where our young ladies learn to both work and play hard. Playing tennis in college is a big deal, and not many people have the opportunity to enjoy that experience. I hope to make this an enjoyable time for our ladies and one that they can be proud of and remember fondly as they grow older.”
We are always looking for young ladies who want an excellent education and to play competitive college tennis. If you would like more information please click on the Prospective Athletes text on the side bar.
