J.D. McALLISTER
Contact Coach McAllister
J.D. McAllister is entering his second year as Head Volleyball Coach at Wesleyan College.
McAllister undertook the great challenge of reinstituting the Wesleyan College volleyball program after a three-year hiatus. The tightly knit group made improvement throughout the season and quickly made volleyball a fan favorite among Wesleyan’s student body.
With years of teaching experience, McAllister brings a unique appreciation to the academic emphasis that is the hallmark of NCAA Division III athletics. A focus on academic success for each student-athlete will be a major influence in every facet of program development including schedules, practices and conditioning. In his first season, four student-athletes received academic recognition including two who earned President’s Scholar honors for posting a 4.0 GPA.
McAllister has long-standing ties to the institution. Three members of coach’s family earned their degree from Wesleyan College including his great-great grandmother who was a member of the school’s first graduating class.
As a coach, McAllister emphasizes basic technique and team movement on the court. His philosophy is that if the team moves as a unit and the girls have fun on the court, the chances to win increase.
Prior to joining the Pioneers’ staff, the native Georgian spent four years as the head volleyball coach at Mt. Zion High School. While at the school, McAllister led the Bulldogs to their first Georgia High School Association playoff appearance. Additionally, he helped coach the girls track & field squad at Mt. Zion to a pair of individual state titles.
A graduate of the University of Georgia Law School, McAllister spent the first part of his professional career working as a lawyer and in politics. He also served time as President of the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and as Executive Director of the DeKalb County Democratic Party. McAllister is married to Margot Roberts and the pair has two daughters who each played intercollegiate athletics. The couple resides in Jonesboro, Ga.
