Assistant Professor of Computer Science
Wesleyan College invites applications for a full-time, tenure track assistant professorship in Computer Science, with teaching duties starting August, 2009. Qualifications include a Ph. D. in computer science or a closely associated field, excellent communication skills, and a very strong commitment to undergraduate instruction and research.
Duties will include providing instruction in computer science and related courses, including discrete mathematics, in support of Wesleyan’s computer science minor and computer information systems major, promoting and directing student research, curriculum development, and service to the College through academic advising, grant writing, and committee work after the first year. Some teaching duties will be in Wesleyan’s evening program each semester. Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Wesleyan College invites applications for a full time, tenure track assistant professorship in mathematics, with teaching duties starting August, 2009. Qualifications include a Ph. D. in mathematics, excellent communication skills, and a strong commitment to undergraduate instruction and research. Some extra consideration will be given to candidates with backgrounds in applied mathematics or modeling, but candidates in all areas of mathematics are invited to apply.

Assistant Professor in Psychology
The Wesleyan College Department of Psychology announces an opening for a tenure-track assistant professor beginning August 2009. Wesleyan College, a liberal arts college for women founded in 1836, emphasizes teaching excellence and seminar-based classes.
Preference will be given to candidates with a strong teaching background and who can coordinate and oversee the newly-approved Human Services major. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. The teaching load includes one evening course per semester. Courses to be taught include, but are not limited to: General Psychology, Introduction to Human Services, Developmental Psychology, Senior Seminar in Human Services, and Psychology of Testing.

Assistant Professor of Biblical Literature and Judeo-Christian Tradition
Wesleyan College invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of Religious Studies, beginning in August 2009, to teach courses in Biblical Literature and the Judeo-Christian Tradition. Wesleyan College, the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women, is a small liberal arts college in Macon, Georgia that maintains her commitment to excellence in women’s education.
Instruction for both lower- and upper-level courses is done in small, seminar-style classes. We are looking for someone prepared to teach courses in Hebrew Scripture, New Testament, Introduction to Religious Studies, and other courses that support a Religion major in a small Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies. Because Wesleyan College’s primary mission is teaching undergraduate students, we will be looking for a candidate committed to excellence in teaching, though evidence of research abilities and commitment to scholarly activity is expected as well.

Wesleyan College, a selective liberal arts college for women, invites applications for a full-time tenure track assistant professor of education position beginning August 2009. In addition to teaching undergraduate and graduate methods courses, candidates will be expected to teach early childhood and middle grade core education courses and graduate research courses. Other duties and responsibilities include student advisement, advisor for action research and theses candidates; curricular development/review and evaluation, scholarly and research activities, and providing service to the college. In addition, this faculty member would be considered for the position of Department Chair of Education.
QUALIFICATIONS: The candidate should have a Ph.D. or Ed.D. (or anticipate completing the degree by the time the appointment begins) from an accredited institution. Director of the First-Year Experience
Wesleyan College, a liberal arts college for women in Macon, Georgia, invites applications for the Director of the First-Year Experience. The position begins June 1, 2009. The director will serve as an important link between academic affairs and student affairs to provide a seamless, integrated experience for first-year students from orientation through the end of their first year of college. The director will coordinate a two-semester sequence of interdisciplinary, writing-intensive seminars; teach one seminar each semester, and assess the first-year experience. She or he will train and support faculty who teach the first-year seminars; implement activities related to first-year seminars; make presentations to prospective students, their families, and others; and provide leadership to several college committees, including the Student Support Team, Administrative Team, and Academic Council. The director will work closely with the Director of Writing to infuse writing into the first-year curriculum. In addition, the director may teach one course each semester in a discipline appropriate to the candidate’s background.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of best practices in first-year experiences, ability to negotiate and collaborate across disciplines, and excellent oral and written communication skills. This twelve-month position begins June 1, 2009, and it includes vacation and sick leave in addition to standard college holidays (approximately fourteen days per year). A master’s degree from an accredited institution is required, and a Ph.D. is preferred. The candidate must have previous teaching, higher education, and assessment experience. The position may be faculty or staff, depending on the credentials of the candidate. Salary is commensurate with experience. The director will report to the Dean of the College/Vice President for Academic Affairs.
