The Wesleyan Police pride themselves in keeping the campus comfortable and safe at all times. Represented by a Chief of Police and 5 officers, the team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our police officers are POST-certified through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training Council and have the power to arrest and carry firearms.
As certified, the Wesleyan Police conduct rounds and constant surveillance in order to ensure safety amongst the students, faculty, and staff. In order to provide first rate protection to the population on campus, the officers ask others to:
- Use well-lit, well-traveled routes and walk in a group.
- Avoid isolated places.
- Carry your keys in your hand when you walk to your car from residence hall door.
- Lock your vehicle and be sure all windows are closed.
- Before entering your car, check the back seat.
- Don’t leave valuables, like your purse or book bag unattended.
- Take care of your keys and never loan them to anyone.
- Do not go into the woods alone and never at night.
- Report suspicious individuals or behavior to Campus Police immediately.
- Check the Emergency Procedures web page for detailed instructions in the event of a campus-wide emergency.
Campus safety and crime prevention requires your active involvement! Notifying Campus Police of any suspicious behavior or individuals is critical. Campus Police Officers patrol campus on a regular basis in order to provide security and protection on campus, however all members of the campus community must play a role in their personal safety as well as that of others as well.
A Campus Police Officer can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Please call (478) 757-5145 (or in the case of busy signal or power outage– (478) 960-7969) to report suspicious behavior, request an escort, or for other needs that can be addressed by your Campus Police officers. Any incident that is criminal in nature should be reported to the campus police. More information on reporting crimes can be found in the Wesleyanne on page 10.
Prepare for Emergency now. To ensure that our campus community stays safe, even during an emergency situation, do two important things now:
1: Register with Wesleyan ALERT, the College's Emergency TEXT Messaging service. In the event of an emergency, a TEXT message will be sent by a College official directly to the cell phone registered with the service. Sign up NOW: Wesleyan ALERT
2: Review Wesleyan's Emergency Management Plan and become familiar with important procedures! From fires to tornadoes, now is the time to learn about emergency procedures so you'll know exactly what action to take should an emergency occur on our campus.
Wesleyan Campus Police publishes quarterly reports of crime statistics as well as an annual safety report detailing crime information specific to our campus, as required by the Clery Act. The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act is the landmark federal law, originally known as the Campus Security Act, which requires colleges and universities across the United States to disclose information about crime on and around their campuses. More about crime reports.
